The Ministry of Heavy Industries has issued an Amendment Order to the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Order, 2024 (“2024 Order”), under powers conferred by Sections 16, 17, and 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
Key Amendments:
1) Extension of Implementation Date:
The enforcement date for the Order has been revised from "one year from the date of its publication" to "1st September, 2026".
2) Revised Scope of Applicability:
The Amendment Order will apply to machines and electrical equipment listed in the First Schedule starting from 1st September, 2026.
However, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components listed in the First Schedule of the 2024 Order will come under the scope of the Amendment Order from a date that will be separately notified by the Central Government in the Official Gazette.
Implications:
Industry stakeholders, manufacturers, and importers now have extended time until September 2026 to comply with the regulatory requirements under this Amendment Order.
A separate notification will follow to specify the effective date for compliance related to assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components.
