Free Trade Agreements- Certificate Of Origin
What is a Certificate of Origin?
Certificate of Origin (CoO) certifies that the goods being exported are wholly obtained, produced, or manufactured in a particular country—in this case, India. It includes details of the product, destination, and country of origin, and is essential for smooth customs clearance and availing preferential tariffs.
In India, CoOs are issued through the Trade Connect Portal by authorized agencies like the DGFT, Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and Export Promotion Council of India.

Types of Certificate of Origin
Non-Preferential CoO
-
Certifies origin without linking to any trade agreement.
-
Used where goods are not eligible for tariff concessions.
Preferential CoO
-
Certifies goods eligible for reduced or zero duties under a trade agreement.
-
Requires meeting specific Rules of Origin (RoO) under the applicable agreement.
